Our school was founded in 1988 as a private, incorporated, non-sectarian school. We have been operating in this very location at 60 Riviera Drive, Markham right from the start. In the course of its history, SMS has been served by highly experienced classroom directress.
SMS has attained several awards such as "The Best Private School in the York Region" by Readers Choice in The Sun. SMS is able to achieve "Excellence in Education" through low student/teacher ratios and individualized lesson plans.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, SMS uses a method of education that has been refined and enhanced for over 70 years. Our school has continued to remain as one of the leading Montessori schools within the Markham area. Its longevity may be explained in no small measure by the confidence and trust placed in its programs and directress by two generations of parents of young children in the York Region districts.
A new management team has officially headed the school in May 2004. Under the personal guidance and mentoring of our Master Teacher, Dr. Daniel Jutras, and our Teacher Consultant, Ms. Lorna Burrows, we have made tremendous improvements to promote the highest standards in the education of children through the classroom environment as per the MACTE standards. We have also added a new Toddler Class, more interesting and exciting Montessori materials, and overall, made the Montessori curriculum mandatory for all students.
