General Notes
Sunrise Montessori offers a casual dress code for all students at all levels. It has been observed that students feel very comfortable, demonstrate better behavior and show more attention to teachers and school work when they are dressed in clothing that they particularly pick for themselves and enjoy wearing.
When in doubt, dress your child neatly and simply. We are concerned about clothing and shoes that may be hazardous to the health and safety of the child. All removable clothing i.e. sweaters, jackets, coats, scarfs, mittens, hats, caps, etc. must be labeled with the child's name.
Clothing
Dress your child in shirts or tops that cover the chest and stomach area. Please make sure that your child does not wear clothing or jewelry that can get caught on the playground equipment. Jackets with strings, scarves, and necklaces are especially dangerous and pose choking hazards.
Shoes
All children should wear sneakers or shoes with rubber soles. It is mandatory that parents provide a pair of outdoor shoes as well as indoor shoes for their child. This is purely for maintaining the general cleanliness of the school where the child plays and studies all day. Slippers, or open shoes are not permitted. Stone and wood chips on the playground can easily get into feet and toes and cause injury !
Jewelry
Children are not allowed to wear valuable jewelry or display these items openly to other children. Valuable jewelry which might be lost on the playground or sandbox should not be worn to school. The school cannot be held responsible for any losses of very small personal items such as jewelry.
Field Trips
Parents are advised to dress up their child appropriately based on the nature of the school activity and weather conditions for any field / outdoor trips. Where possible, Sunrise Montessori may require parents to purchase school T-shirts for outings especially for places that have high visitor crowds. Picture Days
It is mandatory that all students should be dressed their best on this day. They can wear collared white shirts or blouses, short or long sleeves. Slacks, shorts, skirts, and jumpers should be either khaki or navy blue. For sweaters, jackets and cardigans, please select either navy blue, red or black. Boys may also come wearing a tie and coat.
